A PERFECT HALF-DAY ADVENTURE

Arrive at our canoe centre for 12:30pm to be kitted out and briefed by our friendly team. After a short minibus ride to the launch point at Kerne Bridge, you’ll be on the water by 1:15pm and typically return between 4:00–4:30pm. The paddle takes around 3 hours, following a comfortable downstream flow — perfect for beginners or those wanting a relaxed but rewarding adventure.

ROUTE HIGHLIGHTS

This half‑day trip is rich with scenery, history, and natural beauty. Along the way you’ll experience:

LOWER LYDBROOK & THE ISLAND

The first 15 minutes offers an easy warm‑up. Then onto a small S‑bend and an island to navigate — just enough excitement to get everyone smiling.

WELSH BICKNOR

A peaceful stretch with a charming church, former rectory, and wide grassy meadows — one of the best picnic spots on the river.

STOWFIELD RAILWAY VIADUCT

Paddle beneath the remains of the historic Monmouth–Ross railway line, with traces of the Forest of Dean’s industrial past still visible along the banks.

THE BIRTHPLACE OF “Picturesque”

This is the very section where Rev. Gilpin first introduced the word picturesque to the English language — and the views make it obvious why.

COLDWELL ROCKS & SYMONDS YAT ROCK

Towering limestone cliffs, nesting peregrine falcons, and one of the most iconic viewpoints in Britain. This dramatic gorge is the highlight of the entire Wye Valley.

HOW MANY BOATS DO YOU NEED?

(NOT PEOPLE!)

CONDITIONS OF HIRE
  • All people in a canoe will wear a correctly fitted buoyancy aid at all times.
  • Participants under 18 will be supervised at all times, each canoe must have at least 1 adult (18+).
  • Any participant 13 years of age or younger will be supervised by an adult on a ratio of 1:1.
  • No person who is pregnant is permitted.
  • No person under 4 years of age or under 15kgs is permitted.
  • No person with a chest measurement greater than 54 inches and no person over 130kgs (20stone) is permitted.
  • All participants can swim a distance of 25m in clothing, or to be accompanied 1 to 1 with a swimmer who can.
  • No person under the influence of alcohol or drugs are permitted.
  • All participants with any physical, medical, behavioural, mental condition or illness will inform us prior to the trip.
  • All participants affected by sight or hearing impairment likely to affect safety will inform us prior to the trip.
