We want to reassure you that Canoe the Wye Ltd is mindful of the global effects of COVID-19 and our top priority is to keep our customers, team members and communities safe. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these uncertain times.


Complying with the Governments advice, we re-opened on a restricted basis on the 1st June, subject to Government restrictions and centre preparations.

We originally opened on the basis of canoe hire starting and finishing at our location, but as restrictions have eased we have managed to re-introduce our standard half day trips from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat as from the 20th June, with minibus journeys limited to either 2-3 small household groups or 1 large household/bubble. We have introduced time slots throughout the day for arrival times and return times to adhere to social distancing. Bookings are currently limited to people from the same household or bubble.

Three quarter day, 1 day, 2 day, 3 day and 4 day trips will NOT be running, so we can stagger people arriving and finishing throughout the day. Please see the section below titled EXISTING BOOKINGS for your options.



Cleanliness and hygiene

We take real care and pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene at Canoe the Wye and in response to Coronavirus, we've taken some extra steps to make our cleaning and hygiene even more rigorous.

This includes:

  • Sanitising stations located where we check in/out all equipment.
  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning all the areas used by the public and staff.
  • Hand sanitising stations throughout the facility and minibuses.
  • Staff to clean ALL paddles, buoyancy aids, barrells and boats in between every use.
  • Staff to clean handrails and seatbelts in minibuses in between each use.

Measures put in place


We have changed the business model to adhere to the Governments social distancing advice and have implemented the following:

  • Limited the size of bookings.
  • Staggered arrival times.
  • Staggered finish times.
  • Social distancing markers and signs.
  • Perspex dividers on counters.

We're encouraging our staff and customers to do some simple things to minimise the likelihood of a spread. These include:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.
  • Put used tissues in the bin immediately.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – use approved hand sanitiser if soap and water are not available.
  • Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
  • Avoid close contact with other people outside of your household.
  • Anyone who is symptomatic or suspects they have been exposed to the virus does not take part and remains at home.
  • Wear face coverings during minibus journeys (compulsory for ALL)




Due to the uncertainty of what is going to happen in the coming weeks, we have altered our terms and conditions which are summarised below:

• You can now alter your booking up to the 24hrs prior to your trip date
• You can put your booking on hold until you have decided on a new date

• You can move your booking to a new date 

• You can receive a voucher/multiple vouchers for cost paid to date, which will be valid for 3 years
• You can change your booking to a Morning half day / Afternoon half day from 20th June onwards

Due to the number of bookings currently pending we will be automatically placing ALL PRE-COVID bookings on HOLD, unless you have specifically requested a voucher that is valid for the next 3 years or you have contacted us to arrange doing one of our half day trips (restrictions permitting). If your booking is on HOLD it will not expire, it will remain on our database pending a future date.

You may have recently received an automatically generated email from us requesting your balance to be paid, this can be disregarded. You may also receive additional emails from us requesting final payment, that have been automatically generated which may also be disregarded. 

Please let us know if you would like to do our half day trip and we will get you booked in.  Otherwise it is a case of waiting for further updates from the Government and we will communicate any changes as and when it happens. For all new bookings, we have introduced a reduced deposit amount. In this time of uncertainty to give new customers a low risk option of reserving canoes for future months, we have made the minimum deposit amount lower. You can now reserve your canoes for as little as £15 or 10% of the total booking value, whichever is greater. If it turns out your booking cannot go ahead due to C-19, then the deposit can either be held pending a new future date or issued to the customer in the form of a voucher that will be valid for 3 years. Any new bookings for 2020 will be based on the morning half day / Afternoon half day 3 hour canoe hire from Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat. We will not be taking any new bookings in 2020 for three quarter day, 1 day, 2 day, 3 day or 4 day trips until we can confirm they are viable to commence.
