On this page you can read about the canoe hire accommodation that we recommend at Byecross.

Camping is available at Byecross farm campsite. Located between Hereford and Hay On Wye, Byecross Farm Campsite is adjacent to the River Wye meaning it has easy access for canoeing. They have camping areas available in their Orchard or in the fields with extra space. Either visit their webpage for full details or you can contact them on [email protected] or 07768361109.

A little further downstream, Preston on Wye camping is available at Wyecamphere tel 01981500110. Wyecamphere is for the enthusiast camper and canoer. The campsite is on the right bank of the River Wye, 1 mile below Monnington Falls and is immediately to the north of Preston-on-Wye church accessible through the farm yard at Newcourt Farm.

Both of the sites cater for people canoeing the River Wye.

Pubs and Hotels

Accommodation is available in Bredwardine at Brobury House Tel: 01981500229. Brobury House is a charming Victorian building on the banks of the river Wye in Herefordshire. Since arriving in 2001 current owners Keith and Pru Cartright have carefully renovated both the house and eight acres of garden whilst retaining the original Victorian character.

The Red Lion Hotel Tel: 01981500303. Situated in the tiny hamlet of Bredwardine, which nestles on the banks of the River Wye just twelve miles from Hereford, and 8 miles from Hay-on-Wye. Built of red brick, its origins lie in the seventeenth century when it was used as a coaching inn. The lounge bears the name ‘The Courtroom’. This is where the circuit judge of the day used to sit in judgement. It is 400m from the river and provides B and B and camping. Probably a bit too far to carry your canoe though, locks can be provided for securing them overnight.
