CANOE HIRE ACCOMMODATION IN ROSS ON WYE
ROSS ON WYE (1 DAYS PADDLE UPSTREAM)
Ross-on-Wye is normally the last overnight stop on canoe hire trips. Canoeists looking for accommodation in Ross-on-Wye have quite a few options convenient for the river. The first option you will come to is the Ross rowing club on the left, then the main town for B&Bs just a hundred yards along, again on the left, then last of all at the bridge at Wilton, where a few more canoe friendly hotels and pubs are located on the right hand side.
B&Bs, Pubs and Hotels
The White Lion at Wilton offers camping and B&B (Tel: 01989 562785) It is on the bank of the river just below Ross and makes for a very popular overnight stop. It has toilets and shower facilities for campers. Cooking is limited, but they do food and a pre booked breakfast costs just £6. B&B is from £70 per room. Also at Wilton is the Castle Lodge Hotel; Tel: 01989 562234. The Bridge House B&B by the bridge at Wilton has 9 boutique rooms from £100 per night. Wilton Court Hotel is also worth considering for a bit of a splurge. Further upstream is the Hope & Anchor Inn which is based on the left hand side of the river and you will see the benches on the grass outside as you canoe past, they have a guest house and also camping is available on the grass outside, which you have to arrange with the landlord. Nearby is the White House Guest House a canoe friendly B&B, where Charles Dickens is reputed to have stayed (not sure if he was a canoeist, though), the canoes can be left locked up by the river when you stay here (locks provided) Tel: 01989 763572. The Royal Hotel, high above the river is a little way from the river but can also be considered by canoeists.
Ross Rowing Club is on the left bank between the road bridge and the town (both fairly obvious). They make a nominal charge for camping, book direct via their website RRC BOOKING PAGE, (TIP: make sure you pre arrange this or they may be locked up when you arrive as they have limited staffing hours). Camping is also available outside the Hope & Anchor Inn if arranged with the landlord in advance. Although not practical camping when canoeing on the River Wye (due to its distance from the river) another campsite in Ross for caravans and camping is Broadmeadow caravan and camping. Some people use it before or after their canoe hire trip.
